Kiren Rijiju, India’s Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, recently traveled to Doha to express India’s condolences over the death of Qatar’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This visit highlighted the enduring and robust ties between India and Qatar.
During his visit, Rijiju met with Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to deliver the Indian government’s and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s condolences. Rijiju commended the late Father Amir as a visionary leader who significantly contributed to Qatar’s development and strengthened the strategic partnership with India. The Indian community in Qatar also deeply mourns his loss, honoring his contributions with great respect.
Previously, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the Father Amir, recognizing him as a true friend of India and acknowledging his efforts in enhancing bilateral relations. His contributions were remembered fondly, underscoring the deep respect and gratitude the Indian leadership holds for him.
As a gesture of respect, India observed a national day of mourning on July 13, 2026. During this time, the national flag was flown at half-mast on government buildings, and official entertainment activities were suspended, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion.
