He assured the public that the highest court in the country is committed to ensuring justice through the proper legal channels.
Addressing the concerns raised by the ongoing demonstrations, the Chief Justice emphasized that the Supreme Court is prepared to hear every petition that meets the necessary legal criteria. He reiterated that the court’s doors are open to all citizens seeking justice. Justice will be administered wherever it is justified, he assured.
Chief Justice Kant explained that the court had not previously refused to hear the case related to the protests because no formal petition had been submitted at that point. He clarified that only a representation had been received, which did not satisfy the requirements for initiating judicial proceedings. This distinction was important to ensure that the legal process is followed correctly.
Following the filing of new petitions that allege police excesses during the protests on July 20, the Supreme Court has agreed to schedule them for a hearing on the upcoming Monday. The Chief Justice also warned against any misinformation suggesting that the court had declined to consider the case, underscoring the importance of accurate reporting on judicial matters.
