In a bid to bolster economic ties, Indian Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in separate discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Riikka Purra, as well as Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto. The meetings aimed to enhance trade and investment relations between India and Finland.
The talks concentrated on expanding joint efforts in critical areas such as digitalisation, innovation, research and development, startups, and business partnerships. Both parties also considered how to deepen collaboration in cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability.
A significant aspect of the discussions was the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which both countries see as a potential catalyst for boosting bilateral trade and attracting new investments. The agreement is viewed as a means to open up new business opportunities.
These meetings occur as India and the European Union continue their negotiations on a comprehensive trade agreement, which aims to fortify economic relations and enhance cooperation across various strategic sectors.
